British Orienteering elite coach education grant
We are pleased to announce a grant to support British Orienteering in development of coaches involved in the higher tiers of the athlete development pathway.
Our support will help British Orienteering to facilitate the onboarding and development of coaches within the athlete development program, specifically those operating in:
- Level 5 - Performance Squad, with aims to win medals and deliver the best results in World & European Orienteering Championships and World Cup events.
- Level 4 - Development Squad, 19 years and upwards, with aims to win medals and deliver the best results in Junior World Orienteering Championships and World University Orienteering Championships, and contend for selection at World Cups and World Orienteering Championships.
- Level 3 - Talent Squads, 15 years and upwards, split into three super-regions: Talent North, Talent South and Talent Scotland, with aims to develop athletes beyond regional squad level.
The plan is to introduce a comprehensive coach education program, to recruit new coaches and increase the total number of active coaches supporting the above levels, and to up-skill coaches already involved. Of particular focus are ex-international orienteers who already have a good insight and knowledge of the elite end of the sport. British Orienteering support an extensive program of training camps, pre-race preparation and attending a packed competition calendar, and the coaches are an integral part of this.
We wish the program every success and look forward to seeing the impact of the new coaches!
