KFO mapping Devilla

We are pleased to award a grant to Kingdom of Fife Orienteers (KFO) towards remapping Devilla Forest, to help support grassroots development.

This is part of a project to build a pathway from a new Orienteering hub in Duloch, Dunfermline in Fife. KFO had already secured grants from Persimmon Homes and Aldi to help fund a development officer to run regular activities around Duloch, and making a new local map of Duloch. Our grant builds on that to map Devilla and provide a pathway for participants to attend events in nearby forests and further afield - Devilla is just 20 minutes drive from Duloch.

Devilla is a top class orienteering area with a rich history, including staging the JK relays 1990, Harvester relays 1992 (there is even a Devilla Trophy named after it!), World Schools long 2008, and British Universities (BUCS) individual 2015. As well as providing low key orienteering activities, there are plans to use it for the Compass Sport Cup Final (hosted by FVO), and south of Scotland O League (SoSOL) and Scottish Orienteering League (SOL) events in the coming years. Those larger events will also help raise funds to plough back into more club development.

KFO previously teamed up with Masterplan Adventure to map other areas in Fife with funding from us - see our award announcement here. This enabled the club to attract newcomers to the premier orienteering events on these areas and stage activities above their capability. This new grant and project is aimed at further growing the club.
