ORIENTEERING FOUNDATION

North West Junior Squad training camp in Norway

In 2008, the North West Junior Squad received a grant to subsidise the costs of a training camp to Norway.  Thirty-nine juniors from the North West went to make the most out of orienteering on the doorstep!  The juniors took part in coaching, training events and social activities. Below are some comments from juniors on the trip:

The trip was an amazing experience and one that I’m sure will stay with me for a very long time.  The training was very challenging, but also fun at the same time and I think I improved enormously whilst I was there.  It was a completely different type of terrain, so it gave me the chance to train really hard and focus on developing and getting better at orienteering.

The trip was an excellent way to help us with our orienteering.  It was also thoroughly enjoyable as we got to meet new people, make new friends and orienteer in Norway.  I got on really well with my coaches and they gave me brilliant advice that I will now carry out in races back here in England.  I really enjoyed the relay on the last day as our team won a prize – a pot of honey!  Overall I enjoyed my time in Norway and thought that it was the best 10 days of my life.  I really hope that there is another trip in two years’ time. Thanks to all the people who gave money to help us get to Norway.
