Orienteering Foundation coaching day

Coaching in the forest

Coaching in the forest

February 2018

The Orienteering Foundation is pleased to announce we will be supporting a coaching day open to individuals and groups.  We are particularly keen to promote coaching of adult orienteers, who are often under-served, but also welcome groups including juniors

Date: Training originally planned for Saturday 10th Feb, to coincide with the LOC event on Sunday 11th Feb.  However LOC have some issues with permissions for their date, and it could move to 4th Feb.  We are investigating, and determining whether we'd move the training to the 3rd Feb too.  Please contact us for the latest, which we'll confirm here in due course (and we'll be contacting those who have already registered for the training day).

Location: South Lakes (exact venue TBC).

Organisation and planning: Derek Allison

Timing: Exercises open from 10am until 3pm when controls will be collected.

The coaching day is open to the following paricipants:

Individuals: Cost £12 per individual participant. This covers access fees, planned training exercises, hung controls, printed maps, and expert coaching from Derek Allison and / or other experienced coaches.  Any standard from TD3 (orange) up to full TD5 can be catered for.  All individual participants must be 18+ years of age.

Groups: For example clubs, schools, or junior squads.  Cost £5 per group participant. This covers access fees, and supply of electronic map and course files to group leaders. Groups MUST supply their own coach(es), who are suitably qualified, sufficient in number, and responsible for the safety of their group. Groups will need to print their own maps, and may either use the planned courses, or modify / design their own using the same controls (please do not hang additional controls in the forest, unless by prior agreement with Derek). Group participants may be of any age that their coaches are happy to supervise.

Facilities: No toilets provided, but nearest public toilets will be advised in advance.  All individual and group participants should bring their own orienteering equipment (compass etc.), lunch / snacks and drinks.

First aid: Derek and other coaches are qualified first aiders.  Groups should also ensure they have a qualified first aider.

Registration: Individual participants, and group leaders with provisional numbers of participants, MUST register in advance.  At the latest by Sunday 21st January 2018, but ideally sooner.  You cannot just turn up on the day. Please register in advance with Derek Allison, email , telephone 07980 583478.

Limit on numbers: The coaching day is limited to 40 individual participants, and 100 total individual plus group participants.  Strictly first come, first served, so please don't delay in registering, particularly if you are bringing a group.

Cancellations: If the coaching day has to be cancelled for whatever reason (e.g. severe weather), those who have booked and paid will be offered refunds, or the option of keeping a place on a rescheduled coaching day.  The Orienteering Foundation cannot accept liability for any other costs incurred by participants / groups in the event of cancellation (e.g. accommodation).  However, the day will not be cancelled for lack of numbers once at least 10 individual participants have booked and paid, and this information will then be shown on this web page.

Refunds: No refunds will be given, but if a participant has to withdraw, their fee minus £2 admin charge will be refunded if the place is subsequently filled by another paying participant.

Sunday 11th Feb 2018 (but subject to change): Why not make a weekend of quality orienteering training and competing in the South Lakes? The following day there is a LOC event (NWOA Galoppen) provisionally at Black Beck (TBC).  See Lakeland Orienteering Club website in due course for details.
