GBR team support at the rescheduled JWOC

We are proud to have supported the GBR team at the rescheduled Junior World Orienteering Championships in Portugal in November.

JWOC was due to be held in July in Portugal, but was affected by a heat wave and risk of forest fires, and was replanned to just include sprint / urban events. The forest events were eventually rescheduled for November, which meant rearranging attendance for the team, with consequent expense of flights, accommodation, entry fees and so on.

In discussion with British Orienteering, the Orienteering Foundation agreed to make a substantial contribution to help cover the team expenses for the rescheduled JWOC.

You can read more about the GBR team's results in this British Orienteering news article and full results, maps and GPS tracking on the JWOC website. While there weren't any podium performances for the team this year, everyone learnt a huge amount from the races, to take into their winter training and on into next season. Let us highlight one comment from one of the juniors:

I wanted to thank you at the Orienteering Foundation for your outstanding support for the GB JWOC Team in making our second trip out to Portugal for the rescheduled championships. It is absolutely invaluable and we all really appreciate such help. We had a successful week as a team and I am very confident that everyone has come away from the races with a stronger desire than ever to continue training and working hard as we all aim towards the 2023 season and beyond in our junior or senior orienteering careers. Therefore, your donation not only helps our current team, but also feeds through into the future as well, and I should think that you would, like me, consider that to be a very exciting prospect.
