Iris MacMillan support for EYOC and JWOC

We are pleased to support Iris MacMillan in her costs of competing in EYOC and JWOC 2022.

Iris was selected to compete for Great Brittain in the The European Youth Orienteering Championships (EYOC) taking place in Hungary, and the Junior World Orienteering Championships (JWOC) in Portugal, both in July this year. As any parent or junior will know, competing in international competitions for Great Britain can often involve a significant personal expense, and that is on top of further expenses to attend other training camps to continue to improve as you move up the ranks. So we were delighted to be able to respond positively to Iris's application for support.

Given our funding cycles, the competitions have now taken place. This was due to be the first JWOC following two years without due to Covid restrictions, but disappointingly for all the juniors, Portgual was then affected by heat waves and risk of forest fires, and the forest competitions were cancelled. The organisers managed to rearrange the program to comprise an individual sprint, a mixed sprint relay (with races for both A and B teams from each nation), and an urban sprint. Iris had her best result on first leg of the mixed sprint relay with her team finishing 5th in the B relay.

At EYOC Iris's finished 49th in the W18 long, 75th in the W18 sprint, and first leg again for her mixed sprint relay team that finished 5th. All excellect experiences with more years as a junior to come, and we wish her every success in the future.
