Belvoir Orienteering Festival grant

Belvoir Cricket & Countryside

We are pleased to announce a grant towards the Belvoir Orienteering Festival in June this year.

The Belvoir Cricket & Countryside Trust is a charity established in 2009 that inspires children to lead happy, healthy, active lives through sport and countryside education. They take new sports into schools and run out-of-school coaching sessions around Melton Mowbray, the Vale of Belvoir and Grantham throughout the year. Their Cricket & Countryside Education Days programme brings 1800 primary age children and youngsters with Special Educational Needs & Disability (SEND) from around 40 schools out to the Belvoir Estate each summer for a magical and memorial day of outdoor learning, with 28 such days in summer and a further 12 at Easter each year.

Orienteering has always figured large among a range of countryside activities at those days, and out of that the idea of hosting an annual Orienteering Festival was born, the centrepiece of a family fun day fundraiser for the Trust. The project is supported by one of their volunteers, Matt White, from Leicestershire Orienteering Club (LEI), and they are also promoting the day through neighbouring clubs Nottingham (NOC), Lincoln (LOG) and Derwent Valley (DVO).

The event on 16th June 2024 will be a score event, across the privately owned Belvoir Estate. Our grant will help cover the costs of the orienteering control punch and marker packs and punch cards for the day. We wish them every success in their orienteering endeavours!
