This year we were pleased to fund medals and prizes for the British Schools Orienteering Champs.

The British Schools Orienteering Champs (BSOC) is held in the autumn each year, with courses from white to green standard for teams from primary, secondary and tertiary schools around the UK.

It is always a challenging event to budget, as it is standalone for school pupils only with no cross subsidy from adult entry fees, and there is a desire to minimise entry fees to offset the fact that schools and participants travel from across the UK. Like many other events it was cancelled in 2020, and rescheduled for this year, when it faced access challenges and a significant increase in access fees.

As a result the organising team from Hertfordshire and South Midlands Orienteering Clubs approached us to subsidise the souvenir medals that are given to all participants, and prizes to the top placings, which we happily agreed to.

The event finally went ahead in Stowe Park, Buckingham, with over 300 competitors taking part on a beautiful autumn day. See the full report here.
