England Team at the World Schools Champs
In 2015 the Orienteering Foundation made a grant to help the England team attend the World Schools Orienteering Championships in Turkey. The additional support was required given the more remote than usual location, but offered a rich orienteering and cultural experience to the juniors. Some of the quotes received afterwards:
BEST WEEK EVER
Amazing trip, I learned lots about competing at an international level. This will help me to be prepared to compete at a higher level.
Turkey was brilliant! The hotel was gorgeous, the people were lovely and the courses were challenging. I was happy with where I came in the Long distance…. My favourite part of the trip was socializing with other countries and getting the opportunity to experience a World standard orienteering competition in a different country. The whole trip was so much better than I expected and I will certainly try very hard to get in again in another two years’ time. Thank you to everyone who made this happen.
I had a fantastic time meeting all the other countries and getting to know the other competitors. The events were a great experience for the future, getting used to quarantine and longer start call ups. I also gained some valuable knowledge of very different terrain and mapping to here in England. Thank you.
