Moravian CDO year 2 award
We are happy to be supporting Moravian for the second year of their Club Development Officer appointment.
We awarded a CDO grant to Moravian back in 2023, to which Will Hall was appointed and you can see the end of first year report here. In year 1 they held several Come and Try It (CATI) events targeted at increasing awareness and engagement in the local community, in addition to activities for school and youth groups and making extensive use of newly developed Permanent Orienteering courses. This has resulted in increasing club membership from 120 to 150, and increasing participation at local events by 20-30 people per event.
But as many other clubs with CDOs will know, bringing about a sustainable change in awareness, participation and membership is a multi-year effort, so we are pleased to be supporting the continuation of the role for Moravian. Their focus for "phase 2" will be:
- Embed orienteering activity at selected hubs, such as Brodie Castle (Forres), Gordon Castle (Fochabers) and Cooper Park (Elgin).
- Further development of schools’ activities throughout the Moray area.
- Develop at least two new Permanent Orienteering courses - Cooper Park (Elgin) and Cluny Hill (Forres) - and include further use of Maprun to extend the range of opportunities for those new to orienteering on a ‘try it for yourself’ basis.
- Organise some ‘Run try it events’ at Buckie, Cullen and Aberlour, targeting local running groups, using existing links previously developed during Phase I of the initiative.
- Develop location-specific resource packs to support club volunteers in the delivery of CATI and other school/youth group
activities outlined above, in order to support future recruitment to the club.
We wish Will and Moravian all the best for the coming year!
