Octavian Droobers club development officer
We are delighted to make a grant award to Octavian Droobers to help fund a Club Development Officer
OD has been seeing a story that many clubs have recognised in recent years. Declining membership. Aging profile of existing members. The same old faces volunteering to key roles, and their competence has meant little demand to train up the next wave... until they start to retire from volunteering to those roles. Lack of recruitment of new members, especially younger orienteers and families. The old guard preferring to put on classic forest based orienteering events, and not putting on the types of event that newcomers might want, for example parkland, urban, mass start.
This all points to the need for a Club Development Officer! Someone to rebuild energy and enthusiasm within the club by
introducing fresh ideas and approaches together with modern social media communication techniques to reach their target audience. Their remit will be to
- grow a social media presence (currently close to non-existent)
- identify and organise the types of activities that will attract newcomers - a range of "O-Lite" activities and events
- target the main centres of population with the most growth potential (OD spans major centres such as Coventry, Solihull, Nuneaton & Bedworth, Rugby and Daventry, Kenilworth, Warwick & Leamington and Stratford-on Avon)
- develop volunteer skills within the club for organising and planning.
We wish them every success with their endeavor!
