Development conference talks
Catch up on the British Orienteering development conference 2022 talks that we supported this year.
The British Orienteering development conference ran remotely with sessions throughout January 2022. There was tons of great content and you can catch up on session recordings and slides on the British Orienteering webinars page.
Two sessions were particularly relevant to the work of the Orienteering Foundation:
- Retaining beginner orienteers - Neil Cameron presented on the key points from the Orienteering Foundation’s newcomer retention project, including good practice recommendations; results from a survey of club websites’ beginner/newcomer content; and the findings of three “mystery visits” made by beginners to club events. As well as catching on the webinar, check out the Newcomer Retention Group report.
- Supporting club development through the employment of a Club Development Officer - Don't miss this triple header! First up our chair Andrew Evans explained the help the Orienteering Foundation can offer to support club development. Then an example of this was the employment of a Club Development Officer (CDO), looking at CLOK as a case study, whose chair Caroline Mackenzie explained how the club came about shaping a plan and recruiting a CDO, and the CDO Mary Fleming set out the ideas and programmes she has recently been involved with. As well as catching the webinar, checkout the appointment of a CDO for FVO, and a grant to support a CDO for SBOC, both supported by the Orienteering Foundation.
